Sitting quiescently

I learned a new word today! I was excited by all the scrabble-y possibilities today when my genetics teacher used the word "quiescent." Not only is it a word of extraordinary elegance (pretend for a moment that you're a character from a Jane Austen novel and then say it), but in Scrabble you could put down "scent," and then modify it to make quiescent or quiescently. Just think of the possibilities! If you put quiescently down on a triple word score, you'd get, like, 75 points! Oh, it's a beautiful thing.

I've also been thinking lately about the word excoriate, which is a great word. Not so elegant, but you could put down "ate" on a scrabble board and then add the "excori" bit later. I also discovered the word "excurrent," meaning "running or flowing outwardly." As in, "My, your limbs are looking awfully excurrent today," or perhaps, "Gee, I hope that the floodwaters in New Orleans will shortly be headed in an excurrent direction."

And to finish this blog, I will leave you with two humorous Trivial Pursuit questions which I discovered this evening:

Q: What televangelist visited a house of ill repute with a sign in the window that read: "Positively no refunds after 15 minutes?"

Q: What theme park did French critics dub a "cultural Chernobyl"?
A: Euro Disney

Yay for pumpkins

A word from the Associated Press:
"But an article also describes how a hollowed-out pumpkin can be used as a boat, as is done each year at the Windsor-West Hants Pumpkin Festival and Regatta in Nova Scotia.

Potential participants beware: "Your pumpkin, or personal vegetable craft (PVC) as they are known, can rarely be used twice due to structural ravages," the almanac says."

So that's what you're supposed to do with a squash.

The man's getting me down

They put up a sign over the door to the ceramics room that I usually work in that says "Shoes must be worn in ceramics studio."

I'm going to have to stage a "walk in." A barefoot one, to be precise.

Day 2 of Classes

Must... be... H-Core!!!

Phew, this self-actualization thing is exhausting! Last night I planned on spending two hours studying Genetics, but it was so fun, I did three! I know, I know, I'm a total nerd. But I'm a nerd with flashcards! I suppose that makes it worse, actually... oh well, self-actualization, here I come!

And I got up at 6:30 this morning so that I could go visit a 7:40AM Human Event class and spread the word of Camp Sparky. Remind me to never do that again.

So never fear, no matter how much success I may have at self-actualization, I will always be a spazz- I just did a very interesting trick attempting to enter the library via the turnstiles. *ahem* Grace and poise, Eleanor, grace and poise.

So, out of the 11 other people in my jewelry class, I know, like, four. That's a lot for me. Cool! I'm sharing a locker with Tim, another ceramics student. I sawed copper for the first time yesterday, and I only broke, like, 10 saw blades! (Which, believe it or not, is actually less than some people in the class.) I'm excited about our first project in jewelry, though as yet I haven't the faintest notion what I'm going to do. I think that whatever it is, I want to mount it on a barrette... so I guess I do have some idea. Exciting!

My calc teacher seems like a real weirdo. He's not nearly as cute in that "aw, look at da widdle math teacher" kind of way as my precalc teacher, though that class was, coincidentally, taught in the same classroom. That was two years ago. Wow. Time flies.

I suppose I should stop denying the existence of time.

Also, I already have really scary-lookin' genetics homework. I have lecture four times a week, which means, by rule of thumb, eight hours of studying a week... oi. I may have to drop calc. It seems fine right now, but it's only the second day, and Camp Sparky hasn't gotten rolling yet.

I don't know why that reminds me, but I need to do laundry tonight, I suppose interspersed with genetics reading. I'm going to know so much by the end of the semester!

Oh, and here's a picture of the proto-boyfriend, for anyone who's curious:

It's a kind of old photo- I'll put one of my own pictures of him up if I can ever find the cable that connects my camera to my computer... cuz that would help a lot.

Hilarity ensues

So, I find it hilarious that nothing has changed since July 12/19/24.... I still might sorta kinda have a boyfriend. Weird.

In other news, it's the first day of classes. I'm psyched.

I'm also busy self-actualizing. I'm reading Doing Good Better, which is a book on how to be a more effective board member of a non-profit organization. I swear, this book was written with me in mind, lol. I'm also living according to schedules, doing chores (I know, you're in shock!), and working out three times a week. Oh, and I finally became a vegetarian.

Wow. What happened? It's probably because of that maybe sorta pseudo boyfriend. I am such a slave to hormones.

Anyway, I'm off to buy my Genetics text book and dive into studying! Wish me luck! :-*
