Incomplete

So... I think that I'm going to have to take an Incomplete in Ceramics. My teacher's so cool that I think I could get away with whipping some stuff together, but I don't really want to do that, and an I would give me tons o' extra time.

I'm also wishing that my body were a little more incomplete. I resolved to lose some weight on Sunday, and then on Monday when I went to the SRC I had a crazy run-in with the scale; I was not pleased with what I saw. Anyway, I'm cutting back on the edibles, and increasing the physical activity. Wish me luck!

Let's see, what else.... I'd quote the Bad Religion song "Incomplete" now, but I've already done that on this blog, so I'll spare you. I guess that's all! <3 ya!

I hope you have a lot of time, cuz it's a long one!

Wow, long time no blog. So much for that Story of the Day thing. I'd still like to do it, but I feel lazy and boring, a state which isn't particularly conducive to story-telling. Ironically, I've chosen this point in my life to start writing a book. I know, I know, that's a really lame, pretencious thing to do, especially considering that I think I just spelled pretencious wrong. I was just sitting on the bus the other day trying to think of a productive, money-making way that my mom could contribute to society, and writing popped into my head. She's a smart woman, after all, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who could relate to her, even if they're not so, shall we say, extreme. Immediately after that thought, of course, I said to myself, wait, why the devil am I not writing a book? Sure I have no talent or really anything to say that's substantial, but in this modern day and age that doesn't mean I couldn't get published. And god knows I enjoy talking. So I have a new activity to keep me occupied in my *ahem* copious free time. Being obnoxious in print instead of just to myself! Huzzah! (ooh, that's good, maybe I'll put that in the book. Maybe I'll even include this sentence.)

Alright, now for actual updates. Last week (not Thanksgiving Week, but the one before) was crazy-cool. I did far too much drinking, though, I fear. Wednesday was Lindsey's 21st Birthday, so we celebrated with icecream cake and, of course, alcoholic beverages. Thursday would've been sober, but I had Eric and Anika over for a rousing game of Trivial Pursuit, and of course, a couple of beers. Friday was ASU camp for Camp Sparky, which totally rocked, and I got to practice walking backwards in front of an extremely large group of people while trying to should loud enough right smack in the middle of the day to be heard by the slow-moving parents in the back of the group. Ooh, and my Cultural Encounters class went to this former English Professor's house to see his home printing press and learn a thing or two about the fine-arts printing biz. Anyway, back to the drinking, *ahem*, we had the after-camp dinner at Kohi Noor, and Hayden and I hung out at my place for a while eating Indian desserts and catching up. Lisa picked us up (along with Alison, Don, and Nick), and we headed over to Mike's rockin' party!

The party was... hysterical. We played King's Cup, acted foolish, showed off our breasts (this was Alison and I, and yes we kept ourselves covered... mostly), and I have a copule of videos of Alison propelling herself into/onto people. After a certain point (two beers and part of a disgusting cocktail), I reached the conclusion that I was far too sober, so I shot a dixie-cup of rum, a dash of Yeagermeister, and returned to the house with a beer in each hand. Yes, I double-fisted it- I even drank from both bottles at the same time, and there are some good pictures of it. I wound up on Levi's lap (God he's hott), and Mapes joined us for a while. Eventually Hayden, our beloved D.D., decided to take-off, and the train of cool kids left. I thanked Sarah in profuse fashion for driving, (seriously, Sarah, I really appreciate it!), and, thanks to two glasses of water chugged before bed, was miraculously not hung over in the morning. (I know, I didn't have that much alcohol, but you should've seen me!) Here's a picture for your entertainment, but mostly for mine; if you want to see the other photos, just shoot me an e-mail/IM/comment!

So... I remembered Levi (the hott one pictured with me above) saying that he didn't have any plans for that Saturday night, so I conferred with my brain trust, mustered all my courage, obtained his cell number, and called him. Whew! I left a message and he called back later- he ended up coming over to Hayden/Alison/Lisa's for a movie and some Cranium, so I felt very vindicated. Of course, I ended up missing my opportunity, and failed to make out with said attractive young gentleman. There was a particularly embarrassing moment after Levi left, when everyone was standing around and what I said ("Well, shit") that was meant only for Hayden's ears, was heard by everyone. Yemeni Kenny was sweet enough to point out, "What? you like everyone!" :-P But I pulled myself together and called Levi again on Sunday, though he didn't call me back.

No worries, though- this isn't a serious thing that I'm trying to do anyway. I have it on reasonably good authority that Levi doesn't do the "relationship thing," but he might be good for a fling. Also, I've been forwarned that he's not "an initiator"; aka he won't call me, but he is compliant, meaning if I ask him to do something and he's free, he'll do it. Also, he's really chill, which makes it a lot easier for me, when it comes to getting up the nerve to call him. Conveniently, I don't even necessarily have to call him- he's one of Mike's roommates, and Mike's idea of hospitality happens to be a completely open-door policy.

Right, so, what else? Um, on Teusday I went to see Harry Potter, and then went to Sonic with Anika and Eric until around 1am instead of study for my genetics test on Wednesday, though I got up in the morning and studied some more, and I feel really good about the test and the material. We'll see if my grade agrees- the test seemed about the same as the last two, if not easier. Wednesday afternoon I spent in a flurry of activity, getting my act together at last for Anne's wedding to Errol! My god, my peers are getting MARRIED?!?!?!? Wow. Anyway, it was a lovely ceremony at a place called the Wright House, which is in the middle of Mesa, but is quite the nice little oasis- they were married in the gazebo, and the whole garden has been made to look like a French garden. I'm very happy for those two, though I wish that I knew them better these days.

Ah yes, and Thanksgiving. I lay around all day, in proper Thanksgiving style, and watched "Delovely," which I had never seen before, even though I bought the DVD on sale a couple of months ago. In the evening I headed over to Mike's house, and brought Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, and one of Mama Price's famous pumpkin cheesecakes. There was real food there- Anika had make a delectable vegetarian shepherd's pie, and there was stuffing, a green bean casserole, and even mashed potatoes! It felt like a real Thanksgiving! Anyway, we played Trivial Pursuit for a long time until we lost interest, and then Eric kicked my butt at Scrabble a couple of times until Anika came in to relieve him. I hung out at Mike's until 3, with a dual motive- to be sure I was quite sober, and to see if Levi would come home, or stay at his mom's. Alas, he returned not.

So, wanting to see Levi, I called him last night to see if he wanted to go see a movie with me, but he was out at a bar with his sister and her friend, and said he'd give me a call if he got back into Tempe at a reasonable hour, which it would seem he did not, since I didn't hear from him.

Right. And today I... went to the jewelry studio. And went to Pita Jungle with Anika (the birthday girl!!!! Yay!!!!!), her brother, and two of his frat buddies, one of whom is named Remington, which I almost laughed at out loud, because it's the name of a razor. And then I spent about a million years blogging and uploading/labeling photos. Whew!

Story of the Day

So, I'd like to start posting regularly, with a "Story of the Day" theme, but the idea relies on the presumption that something tell-able happens every day. That presumption is, I fear, untrue, so I may have to stretch to find stories... But in anycase, here's a story for today!

So... foul is tasty. It's a middle eastern dish that's usually made of fava beans, in a spiced sauce. Anyway, I was out and about today, and decided to stop in at the Cafe Aladdin over on Rural, since I'd never been there, and pick up some take-out. When I ordered, however, I pronounced "foul" correctly (it's like fool, kinda, but with more, um, Arabic-like consonants), and this broke the ice with the owner, who then offered me coffee, and Ali and I (that's the owner's name) ended up sitting outside in the gorgeous weather smoking rose-flavored sheesha, drinking arabic coffee, and chatting for a good half an hour. He's from Lebanon, and he of course extolled the virtues of his home country and how much more civilized it is than other middle eastern nations. Whenever he talked about Lebanon, though, all I could think about was the part of "Spy Game" that takes place in Beirut, because I watched it for the first time last night with Lindsey, Melody, and David. Anyway, lunch today was quite the cultural experience!

Alright, thus concludes my story of the day. I'll try to make sure that I have an interesting occurence to relate tomorrow, as well; this could be fun!

Deaths Come in Pairs

Sorry about the lack of writing, and the not so cheerful subject, but my life has been pretty bland lately (with the exception of the Halloween Party, I suppose), and Death is on my mind.

In the fall of 1995, my grandmother, Edith, passed away. Within the month, my uncle Tim, on the other side of the family, did the same.

Ten years later, aka two weeks ago, my grandmother's older sister, Clara Frances, passed on, and this morning my uncle Don, again on the other side of the family, had a heart attack after doing his usual morning workout.
