An Eventful Teusday
So... I've been doing approximately nothing the last few days, except for working out. Yesterday was a bit of a break from that though. I actually got up at a reasonable hour (No Way!) and headed off to be a model for a photo shoot that the College of Education was doing for its new brochures. It was pretty hilarious since shots always seemed to be set up to have the maximum possible awkwardness (such as the shot that had four of us "talking in a group," except that each of us was directed to look at someone different than was looking at us). Also hilarious was being referred to as "the talent," as in "We're ready to switch out the talent on this shot, so if you three could get ready and head over..." It was a pretty entertaining time; Ferdy hijacked the photographer's laptop to play Facebook and MySpace, and they ended up doing a shot of it- quite frankly it's the most realistically "college" picture they took. The COE, via Jennifer Rubins, treated us to lunch at Lorenzos, and we had a gossipy lunch during which Ferdy told us all the darkest dirt on the gay counter-guy at Lorenzos and Jennifer looked actively adorable with a parasol. I'm thinking I should start doing the parasol thing- right now I'm just begging for melanoma.
Now, don't go thinking I had an entirely active day- things pretty much went downhill after I got home. I read for about twenty minutes and was ready to get up and go to the gym, but before I knew it, it was two hours later and I was just waking up. Damn.
Anika and I managed to get our act together and go to the Teusday night swing lesson at the Coffee Talk Cafe out in Mesa. It was a little dissapointing in that the class was really remedial. Last time I went was back over Spring Break, and we learned a bunch of neat stuff, including Balboa and a cross-step. Last night wasn't nearly so interesting, though I suppose it couldn't be helped since Henry and Nick (the boyfriend of Becca, Henry's co-instructor) were the only ones who could lead for shit, pardon my French. I spent most of the night dancing as a guy, which was an adventure, and for the most part I did well, I think. Anika and I stuck around and danced in the Cabaret, her with a kid named Jason and I with Henry. It was fun, though Henry doesn't know what I do and do not know, so he led some things which lost me and didn't lead things I could have done. He did dip me though- I was a little worried since he's about a foot shorter than I am, but he managed to dip me all the way back (like, my head was mere inches from the stage) without incident. I did wish there were someone who I'm used to dancing with to perform with, though.
Anika and I cut out at 9, heading for Fat Teusdays with Al, Don, and the Khan al'KhaLisa, where we flirted with some boys at the bar over $2 daquiris. The night was entertainingly rounded out over more drinks and appetizers at Applebees. Oh, and let's not forget the dirty games of "hangman" or the filling-out of the timecard we found under the table. You guys rock my socks.
Today has been remarkably unproductive, though I really do intend to finally go to the grocery store today, and get to the gym as usual. I might play tennis with Alison and Don tonight, which should be hilarious- I'm worse than ever, though I'm gradually getting this serving business under control. Oh, the sillyness.
